Prologue - La Tale Cover

February 16th, 2026

This is a cover of a song from this game called La Tale. It’s a South Korean MMO that’s almost 20 years old, and I’ve also never played it. I got this song in my YouTube recommended playlist, and it is so good that I wanted to cover it myself, like I often do for songs I like but yet lack the skill to understand why. I always hope that making it will help me learn just by touch.

All Your Friend is Here

February 8th, 2026

I made this while thinking about my birthday coming up. It’s weird to find that I’m not really excited about it this year… but it’s also been a weird year. The title is a reference to a song lyric: “Send birthday invites, and now all your friend is here,” so the song goes. It kinda loses its luster to just explain the bit in this description, but I barely talk about this stuff with any of my friends anyway so I’m pretty sure only one of them would even know what I’m referencing.

FOREVER

January 23rd, 2026

If I were to pick a favorite song of the month, it’s gonna be this one. The layers were crafted one by one, and I had to simplify parts to make room for other instruments to get their “moment” because, apparently, saxophone wants to be center stage always?? Sit down sax, give us a chance! Sometimes I struggle with a satisfying conclusion for my songs, but this one just felt right. It felt like placing the last piece in a jigsaw puzzle, and feeling it click into place. So satisfying. Sorry about the heavy-handed puzzle metaphor, I finished a puzzle today instead of watching the Super Bowl.

Star

January 21-22nd, 2026

Star is an unused song from Undertale that you can find in the game files. Somehow in all the years I’d been a fan, I had never heard this song until a few weeks ago. It uses the Star Fox soundfont, which is probably where the name comes from. In my version, I sought out this soundfont, and I also found some voice lines there. If you read about my last song, you’ll know I’m a real sucker for stupid voice lines injected into my music. They also find their way into covers I do, now that I’m thinking about it. The first time this happened was a recreation of Ice Cap Zone from Sonic 3, but with the Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga voice lines.

Monkey Business

January 16th, 2026

This one was just fun. I have a real habit of adding the Donkey Kong Country monkey sound effects to my music. This is the first time I really focused on the drums being consistent with the rest of the instruments. Drums and the bass is not usually my “jumping off” point, but they are intrinsically tied to the identity of this song. Sometimes I have a fever and the only prescription is more monkey sound effects, so the final section really cures me of it.

COMATOSE

January 4th, 2026

In the first 4 days of the year I made 3 really solid songs, and they’re kind of thematically tied to each other in that all-caps thing. This song is named COMATOSE because of the last minute of the song. Perhaps the main section of the song serves as the dream inside the subject’s mind. These songs were named in ways that begs to be interpreted. Naming a song is itself art sometimes. Taking an existing song and stamping it with a name, makes you automatically search for the meaning inside the music itself.

RUMINATE

January 2nd, 2026

RUMINATE follows the all-caps theme I accidentally started the year with, and like the previous song, it was also sourced from the song before it. This song to me represents the idea of wandering around an idea/place knowing there’s more to explore, but ultimately failing to complete the thought. I also love love love automating a bitcrusher on the drums! So staticky! Is staticky a word??

KEY

January 1st, 2026

KEY is my first song of the year! It really reminds me of a song from the game Firewatch, but I can’t place which song! This song began from the seed of a song I made at the end of last year, which is kind of thematic for ringing in the new year :P Also, the name KEY came before I actually did a key change in the song, and I didn’t catch it until after the song was finished!
